Coming Sunday and Beyond
Linda will preach on “Now Thank We All Our God.” Emily Davis and her granddaughters, accompanied by Forest Arnold, will provide our special music. We will also go through a Litany of Godspeed to send Olivia on her way with blessings to her new home and job in Richmond. After church, we will have Lemonade on the Lawn (or in the Narthex depending on the weather).
Linda will be at the Massanetta Bible Conference next week. Kathy Carpenter will lead our worship on Sunday, July 27. The officer on call during that week is Sue Bentley, who can be reached at 540-320-3170. You can also call the church office. |

Lemonade on the Lawn We are now well into lemonade on the lawn. This requires one to set out a table, put out the lemonade (found in the refrigerator in the kitchen) and cups, and clean up. There is a sign-up sheet in the narthex for those who want to help with this fellowship event.
There are open dates in July and August. Thanks to those who already signed up. |

Knorr Spinach Dip Recipe
This is what was served at Olivia's shower and many asked for the recipe.
1 box (10 oz.) frozen chopped spinach, thawed and squeezed dry 1 container (16 oz.) sour cream 1/2 cup Hellmann’s® or Duke's® Real Mayonnaise 1 package Knorr® Vegetable Recipe Mix 1 can (8 oz.) water chestnuts, drained and chopped (optional) (find these in the international aisle or the Asian foods section) 3 green onions, chopped (optional)
1. Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix.
2. Chill the spinach dip for about 2 hours.
3. Serve this classic spinach dip with your favorite dippers, like crackers or veggies.
|
|
|
TIP: How to Make a Spinach Dip Bread Bowl: Choose a round loaf of bread with a sturdy crust, like sourdough. Slice off the top of a loaf of bread and pull out the interior, to create a bowl shape. Cut the pieces you removed into bite size chunks that can be used for dipping. Fill the bread bowl right before serving. |
|
TIP: For a lighter spinach dip recipe, substitute the sour cream for 1 container (16 oz.) nonfat plain Greek yogurt and substitute the mayonnaise for Hellmann's or Duke's Light Mayonnaise. |

Responding to the Flooding in Texas From July 4th to 5th, heavy rainfall resulted in catastrophic flash flooding in the Hill Country area in central Texas. Concerns remain for additional heavy rains and flooding from Hill Country to north Texas. The sudden floods resulted in more than 80 lives lost and search and rescue is ongoing. Presbyterian Disaster Assistance (PDA) is in communication with the Synod of the Sun Presbyterian Disaster Network and Mission Presbytery to coordinate a response and assess the needs, including Emotional and Spiritual Care. To help those in need, please make checks payable to Presbytery of the Peaks and include the designation number DR000191 (U.S. Flooding). Send checks to the Presbytery office at PO Box 2519, Forest, Va 24551. Please join in praying for those affected: Good and Gracious God, We come before you with humble hearts, overwhelmed by the catastrophic floods in parts of our Mission Presbytery and beyond. We thank you for the lives saved in the midst of this devastation. We grieve with those who have lost their loved ones. Comfort and console them, O God! We pray for those who have lost their homes, businesses, and cherished belongings. Hear our prayers, O Lord! As the community prepares to rebuild, we pray for strength and resilience. Grant us all a generous heart, so that we may rally the resources needed to rebuild our flooded communities. We trust in your faithfulness, dear God, even in the midst of devastation. Bless all who work for relief and restoration. And may your peace, which passes understanding, guard the hearts and minds of those who suffer. May our response reflect your love for all people and all creation, and thus bring honor and glory to your holy name. We pray all these in the name of Jesus Christ, our Risen Lord! Amen! Prayer provided by Mission Presbytery. |
